Sensors

Every value has its own address under /sensorlove, with one number in it, or one text. A destination's PREFIX goes right after the root: /sensorlove/phone1/accel/x. OSC tells how the values travel.

ATTITUDE

Which way the phone is facing: pitch tips it forward, roll tilts it sideways, yaw turns it around. Hold it like a steering wheel or a camera and map it to rotation.

QUATERNION (QUAT)

The same orientation as ATTITUDE, as four numbers. Use it to rotate 3D objects: it never flips or locks up when you point straight up or down.

GRAVITY

Which way is down. Tilt the phone and the values follow, smooth and without shake. The easiest way to steer something by tilting.

GYROSCOPE (GYRO)

How fast the phone is spinning. Still is 0. Twist it quickly to trigger things, or let the spin drive a speed.

ACCELEROMETER (ACCEL)

Every force on the phone, gravity included. Knocks, taps and bumps show up right away.

USER ACCELERATION (U.ACCEL)

Only your movement, with gravity taken out. Shake, swing or punch the air: made for gestures and hits.

LOCATION

Where the phone is and how fast it moves. Slow to update, but great for walks, rides and site-specific work. Needs location permission.

MAGNETOMETER (MAGNET)

The magnetic field around the phone. Bring a magnet or a speaker close and watch it jump. Also a rough compass.

BAROMETER (BARO)

Air pressure, and how far you went up or down. Lift the phone above your head and you will see it move.

WEATHER

The weather where the phone is, from Open-Meteo.com: temperature (°C), how it feels, humidity, rain (mm), clouds, wind (m/s) and where it comes from, pressure (hPa), day or night, and the sky (WMO's code; in words at /sensorlove/weather/text, for an OSC In DAT). New every 15 minutes, and sent again every 5 seconds for a patch opened later. Needs your location, which goes out rounded to about 1 km. Weather data by Open-Meteo.com.

TOUCH

Where up to five fingers are, from 0 to 1, and how many. Each keeps its number until it lifts. Touch the monitor, or open the pad to play the whole screen like an XY controller.

MICROPHONE (MIC)

How loud it is around the phone, from 0 to 1. Clap, talk or play music to drive light and sound.

PROXIMITY (PROX)

The sensor next to the earpiece: 0 when something is close, 1 when clear. Wave a hand over it for a simple on / off trigger. It is a bit shy.

BATTERY

How full the battery is, from 0 to 1. Handy in long installations: slow the piece down or warn before the phone dies. The wizard lives on it: full, he flies; then he sits, dozes off, and when it runs out there is only his grave.

TIME

The phone's clock and calendar: hour, minute, second, how far the day has gone (0 to 1), the date, the weekday (1 is Monday) and the day of the year. For pieces that follow the day, or several phones on one clock. What changes slowly also goes out every 5 seconds, for a patch opened later. The hourglass runs a minute.

FACE TRACKING (FACE TRACK)

Reads your face with the front camera: where your head is and how it turns, where you look, and 52 expressions from 0 to 1, played by a frog. Tap the monitor for every value at once; CAMERA shows how to make each move.

HAND TRACKING (HAND TRACK)

Up to two hands, front or back camera (with FACE on, the front one): H1 is your left hand, H2 your right. Each sends its gesture (fist, open palm, victory...), which fingers are up, where you pinch and how wide. Tap the monitor for every value at once; CAMERA shows how to make each gesture.
